Last month Shelby attended the Violin Society of America Convention. It was an incredibly enriching experience filled with informative lectures, both rare and modern instruments on exhibit to study, and opportunities to connect with many different facets of the industry. The highlight was definitely the New Instrument Exhibit where Shelby had a viola on exhibit. On one of the evenings members of the Minnesota Orchestra played excerpts on all of the instruments and then each player chose an instrument to perform the first movement of Dvorak’s American Quartet. The Martignacco viola was chosen out of the 15 violas presenting! You can find recordings of the quartet performance here.
